Founded in 1938, the Roger-Viollet Agency manages a collection of approximately eight million photographs owned by the City of Paris. The collection is a mosaic of historical testimonials of impressive variety: great events and small trades, arts and sciences, politics and daily life, distant journeys and the streets of Paris, portraits of both famous and unknown men and women. This incredible heritage also traces the history of photography from the mid-19th century to the present day.
