THE PROJECT

Paris en Images offers a free, unlimited-access, interactive way to explore a selection of 25,000 pictures from the photography collections of the City of Paris.

• In the Collections Gallery, you can search for, look at and send pictures, print them out in low definition for documentary uses and download wallpaper and banners intended for blogs. Soon web users will also be able to order copies of their favourite photos.

• The « Stories behind the Pictures » section has a wide variety of resources offering a documented, contemporary view of the collections based on a thematic approach with commentary by specialists.

• The « In the Streets » section features photographs from collections organised by arrondissement as well as theme-based walks through various Paris neighbourhoods.

• The Education Observatory is based on a recurring photography renewal project conducted in cooperation with Paris schools.

The Parisienne de Photographie runs the Paris en Images site in cooperation with the Cultural Affairs Department of the City of Paris, France Telecom, the Roger-Viollet photography agency and the Crayon noir e-médias agency. The site was developed in its experimental form in the framework of the Paris Ville Innovante charter.

Since September 1, 2006, the SAEML Parisienne de Photographie, a local semi-public company set up in July 2005, has been in charge of the digital reproduction and enhancement of the City of Paris’ image and photography collections in the framework of a public service delegation. The collections include those in museums, heritage libraries and other municipal cultural institutions as well as the Roger-Viollet Photography Agency.
